Three Rivers Gymnastics follows the policies of the Wahpeton School District in the following areas. The following information has been copied from the Wahpeton High School Activities Handbook.

High School Activities Director’s Message
Welcome to Wahpeton Public Schools Activities. The school district supports the activities programs and views them as positive experiences for the students. Below are a few things we need to keep in mind.
1. Activity participants are treated as regular students. No special consideration is given to them for grades or assignments.
2. The activity programs are conducted for the benefit of the participants with maximum concern for their safety, health and well being.
3. All involved must be mindful that participation in activities is a privilege earned by meeting certain expectations. The same holds true for both student and non-student spectators.
4. Allegiance must be given to the North Dakota High School Activities Association and its constitution and by-laws.
We encourage students to be involved and participate in extra-curricular activities sponsored by the Wahpeton Public Schools.
Mike McCall
Activities Director

Physical Examinations For Gymnasts
ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE A FORM A PHYSICAL EVERY YEAR BEGINNING THE 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR. These physicals must be completed after June 15th and before their first sport.
NOTE: All physical exams or health history screening updates must be completed prior to the beginning of practice. Students will not be allowed to participate or practice until all necessary forms are completed and turned into the office.

School Sponsored Activities On Church Night
Due to limited practice facilities there are times that practice may go past 5:30. Students must be excused from extra-curricular activities to attend religious functions without repercussions for the absence or early departure from practice.

Extra-curricular Attendance Policy
A student must be in attendance half of the day of an athletic or co-curricular activity to be eligible to participate or attend. Furthermore, students are required to attend school the morning following any athletic or co-curricular activity held the evening before at the school or elsewhere. This is a minimum stated requirement as approved by the board of education; however, it is understood that each coach or supervisor has the discretion of setting higher standards.

TRAVEL
Participants should travel to and from an activity with the group/team unless a parent requests and a coach permits the student to travel with the parent. Studens are not allowed to travel with other students.

Lettering Policy
The Lettering Policy has been set forth by the Wahpeton High School Activities Director as well as the head coach of each team. The Lettering Policy for Wahpeton High School Gymnastics is the following:

To be eligible to Letter, you cannot miss more than 8 practices during the season. To Letter, you must meet one of the two following guidelines:
1. Attend scheduled gymnastics competitions sanctioned by Wahpeton High School. You may miss one meet, not including Regionals or State.
2. Qualify for Individual State Gymnastics Day.
Alcohol and Drug Policy

Prohibited Behaviors
Students shall be subject to suspension from extra- curricular activities which shall include co-curricular activities for any/all of the following infractions:
1. The use or possession of alcohol, tobacco or any controlled substance as defined by North Dakota law.

Period of enforcement:
This policy shall be in effect 12 months per year, including those days and months when school and extra-curricular activities are not in session. It shall go into effect for each student upon promotion from grade eight to grade nine.

Student record of violations:
Each student’s record of violations of this policy shall be cumulative commencing with promotion from grade eight to grade nine and concluding upon his/her graduation or completion of any school sponsored activity extending beyond graduation, i.e. state track meet. Each student’s cumulative record shall be filed and maintained in the office of the high school principal and shall be separate from the student’s academic file.

Penalty for violations of policy:
A student shall be suspended for a period of six consecutive weeks from participation in any extra-curricular activities for the first offense during his/her high school career and a period of eighteen weeks for any subsequent offense(s) if occurring within eighteen months of the previous offense. In the event the student has not violated said policy in the past eighteen month period, the suspension for the subsequent offense shall be twelve weeks. In the event the suspension is administered during a season when the student is not actively participating (i.e. summer for all students, fall for a student participating in track etc.) the student’s suspension shall be extended to include a minimum of a two week or two contest suspension (which ever is more severe) from the student’s next activity. “Next activity” shall be defined as the next activity in which the student begins practicing at the appropriate date and concludes at the end of the season (i.e. does not start and quit). Should the student’s next activity not be until the following school year, the two week or two contest rule will be applied at that time. Regardless of time frame or situation, it is the intent of this policy that any student in violation shall be suspended for a minimum of two events.

  1. Procedures for Administering Policy :
The school administrator (Superintendent, Principal or Activities Director) shall immediately investigate any alleged violation of the alcohol, tobacco, and controlled substance rules of the North Dakota High School Activities Association and Wahpeton Public Schools.
  2. If, through the course of the investigation, the administer finds probable cause to believe that Section I of this policy has been violated, he/she shall give the student immediate notice of the suspension. The period of suspension shall begin from the date and time the notification is given to the student by the administrator.
  3. The student shall have the right to a hearing within three school days during the school year and three week days during any time school is not in session e.g. Christmas vacation, summer vacation.
  4. During the period between notification and hearing, the suspension may be deferred for good cause shown. However, if the suspension is not imposed and the student is found to be in violation of Section I of this policy, any interscholastic contest or activities participated in by that student after the initial hearing (investigation) will be forfeited and the suspension will start from the date that guilt was established.
  5. Such hearing shall be on notice and conducted by the administrator. The student shall have the right to be present at the hearing and offer such testimony and other evidence the student deems material. The student shall have the right to confront and question the person or persons who complained of such violation of Section I of this policy.
  6. If the student is not satisfied by the ruling of the hearing officer (administrator) the student shall have the right to have the ruling reviewed by the local School Board.
  7. The above interpretation includes a reported violation for use, possession, or sale of nonprescription anabolic steroids.
